Quest for the Perfect Idea...

So for a couple of years now I have wanted to write a cartoon tv show, but I am stumbling with the idea for the show. I wrote a pilot [I guess you could call it that] of a cartoon for my grade 12 english class final project and got a really good mark on it about a beverly hillbillies style plot where a redneck white trash family comes into some money and moves from a stereotypical southern united states to a stereotypical los angeles, but I never went back to the idea-maybe I should.

Tonight I was trying to think of an idea so I decided to list some of the cartoons I like and why I like them. There are the usuals, south park, simpsons, family guy, an then a couple lesser known/lesser enjoyed ones such as futurama and undergrads. So after making this list of cartoons I enjoy watching I tried to think of reasons why I liked each show, and common themes of great characters, quick wit, and good ideas quickly came about. But these are the basic necessities of any show, so what sets these shows apart from anything else? I think the plausable application to real life, yet completely out-there stories help to make these shows what they are. Still, I think to myself and cannot come up with a good reason why these shows alone can make me happy.

Despite the fact that they are not even real people I fall in love with the characters, fry and bender, peter, brian and stewie, stan, kyle, kenny and cartman, nitz and jesse, and of course homer and bart are just drawings, but I love them, they appeal to me... does this mean I have the i.q. of a piece of paper? Am I an idiot for loving cartoons? Why do cartoons bring me to tears of laughter I feel sad for fry when he doesn't get leela in those emotional episodes of futurama? Hell, I don't even feel emotions for actual people in sitcoms, I don't feel sad for eric when donna dumps him, but I can't take my eyes off the screen when nitz is having trouble with kimmy but doesn't even realize jesse likes him.

How is it that cartoons are that much better than anything else on tv? How can I write a cartoon that people will love as much as I love south park, or family guy? Do I need some sort of weird plot like futurama or is a basic everyday plot like undergrads or family guy okay, and what do I need to do to make people feel for my characters? I guess if I knew the answers to these questions I would have my cartoon and everyone would love it, but as for now I am still on the quest to write something that people will like and can't wait each week until it is on, just as I do for the other cartoons.

Apparently Apple reads my blog...

...or maybe not, but check out this old post I made way back on June 1st of this year about my suggestions for the new iPod. I go on to say "What about the ability to connect your iPod to your TV (or other screen) and play the movies you have saved on it." Wow did I hit the nail on the head with that one, it kinda creeped me out when I went back and read it yesterday.

On a similar note I went to Best Buy today and got a chance to really take a look at the new iPods. I can't believe how Apple continues to make these things that much better... The nano is so small and [despite scratch-ability] it is one of the coolest looking iPods thus far. The iPod [with video] is so sweet, not only does it have a bigger screen, but it also cut down on thickness of the device while keeping up the storage capacity. The only problem is that I got a 4G 20 gig iPod with photo just a couple months ago, so I am not in the market right now... but I guess I wouldn't mind having a second iPod, a smaller one for when I'm on the go. Still the coolest device in my opinion.

Years of google.

via Digg, Link.

The above is a link to a post on a message board where someone put up many of google's logos over the past few years. Check it out and see how many of them you can remember, my personal favourites are the salvador dali and the one of the guy drawing hit own hands.

Update: apparently google also has an archive of these logos.

When all the cold pizza is gone...

Okay, so it's 2:00 am on a saturday night and you're staving... all that's left is those burgers you thought you could eat earlier that week. Ewww, gross, soggy, slimey, disgusting buns on cold meat with gross vegetables and stale fries; I don't want to eat that, but it's all I have. Well if you're in this situation, single guy [or girl] with an empty stomach and similar fridge then you should try the method my friend/roommate Josh concocted.
We had gotten burgers earlier from Burger King [whopper wednesdays] and of course had gotten more than we could eat so we put some in the fridge. Later when we went to get our burgers out of the fridge they were even soggier than when we originally got them, so after putting them in the microwave for a minute they came out so disgusting we were ready to throw them out... Until Josh had a stroke of genious and decided to put his burger in the toaster oven; this toasted the soggy bun and solved the original problem, the bun was no longer soggy but nice and crisp.
This theory is similar to Quizno's theory on toasting subs [however when a meatball sub from Subway get soggy I dont mind]. According to Quizno's 'Everything's better toasted', and they seem right on the money with that one.

The Aristocrats

So last night I saw one of the funniest things in my young life. Honestly I am not exaggerating, this is the single funniest thing I have ever seen [in the past week, I can't remember anything before that]. There is this movie-The Aristocrats-about this joke that 100 comedians tell in their own way, I am yet to see this but this is the joke as told by cartman of southpark.

Warning: WILL offend.

I almost crapped myself whilst watching this rather hilarious scene. Enjoy.

Sorry for the inconvience

I would like to apologize to any readers who are not members of blogger.com, I was getting too much comment spam so I had to make it so only registered users can comment. I also had to put in a picture verification box so a computer cannot post comments and it requires an actual person if they wish to spam me.

I heart the Ladies

Via BoingBoing! [link to article]

Some fellow Canadians, the Barenaked Ladies, are planning to do something really cool, which is releasing an album on a 128Mb USB jump drive.

They even say the flash drive is an easy way 'to share music, videos, pictures and other data'--not the kind of sentiment you'd hear from most bands.

Personally I think this is one of the greatest things a band can do, and at a perfect time. While SonyBMG is making their customers grab their ankles the Barenaked Ladies are encouraging their fans to share music.

This is obviously going to be a little pricey-at an estimated $30 usd-but hell, you get a USB stick out of the deal. [I know most of you probably have 4 or 5 of them, but I only have a 16 Mb one] I hope more bands take a hint from BNL and do something like this.

Google.

Today I was reading my dad's blog and I came across this post about google, and if you would pay for google, such as $5 per month. I don't know about you, but this would be quite a predicament, but in the end I would probably give in and pay for this great service.

In my dad's post he links back to another blogger who is trying to give up google for a week, to me this is a seemingly impossible task, I use google for everything. If I need to find a company I google it, If I need to find anything I google it. Google has become a cultural icon, how many companies like google get mentioned in mainstream media? The list of shows that make reference to Google is endless, and includes such names as The Simpsons, Arrested Development, and House [to name only a few]. They turned their name into a verb, and have done most of this with almost no marketing. I don't know who said it, but google is every company's homepage - if I am trying to find Sony Canada, I don't just guess URL's until I come to sonystyle.ca, I just google Sony Canada.

In my opinion, Google is the it, they're what matters. I am more interested in what Google is up to than what the government is, is that wrong?

Apple.

Well, I have had my powerbook for around three months now, and I love it. I can't believe it took me so long to switch...

I remember a mere 2 years ago when I didn't like Apple, wow, I was so wrong. Remember all those jokes about Apple being the idiot's computer, today I would say that couldn't be further from the truth [and not because I am a biased Apple user]. Even my dad, a PC user since before computers fit into rooms, let alone on desks and laps, just bought a powerbook.

I chalk it up mostly to the incredible success of the iPod, which got customers looking in Apple's direction and made them realize how good of a product they put out. I have had mine for a few months and haven't had one problem yet.

I saw this video today that inspired me to make this post, until I had so many problems with my windows computers I hadn't really thought about switching, but it was the best thing I have ever done. From now on anyone who asks me what type of computer they should get it is Apple all the way.

Update.

Hey, I'm still alive, I've just been doing other things, but now I have some free time on my hands, so I think I'm going to go a little post-crazy to catch up on the past couple of months...
